Adam Levine Says He Wants to ‘Quit’ ‘The Voice’ Before He Has to Make ‘Super Crappy’ Decision
Adam Levine hasn’t yet completed his first season back on The Voice, but he’s already joking about calling it quits.
The Maroon 5 frontman, 46, struggled to choose a winner after his artists Ari Camille and Britton Moore performed in the knockouts on Monday, April 7. Ari, 21, impressed her coach with a rendition of “Love Like This” by Faith Evans, while Britton, 21, sang Zac Brown Band’s “Free.”
“It’s that time again,” Adam said of the knockout round. “I got to put good people against good people. There’s nothing I can do about that. It shows me that if you’re able to win this knockout round, you can go a lot further.”
The “Sunday Morning” singer continued, “It’s going to be hard. There’s something about that Ari: she is special. But Britton is a bit of a chameleon. He’s exploring. That’s a good thing. Two very different singers. Two very good singers. It’s going to be tough.”
After the performances, coaches Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend and Michael Bublé shared their thoughts, but they couldn’t help Adam choose a winner.
“Both of you earned the right to not leave this competition,” John, 46, told the Team Adam contestants. “I’ll tell you that.”
Lamenting over the decision he would have to make, Adam told his artists, “You guys both did exactly what needed to be done, which is amazing for you guys but super crappy for me. I feel like everyone’s going to be alright. I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. Please don’t ask me, Carson [Daly].”

He joked, “I don’t know. I quit.”
However, Adam ultimately ripped the Band-Aid off and chose a winner.
“I think I’m going to go with the person who’s most ready to move forward right now, and the winner of this knockout is Britton,” he said.
Carson, 51, could barely get a chance to share that Ari was available to steal before John hit his button, bringing the singer — who was previously a member of his team in the battle rounds — back to Team Legend.
“I really think she exudes star power,” he said. “Come on home!”
Meanwhile, Adam explained, “I went with my gut. Britton is so good. I couldn’t let him go.”
Though the eliminations are stressful for the coaches, Adam is used to making these decisions. He returned to The Voice season 27 after previously serving as a coach in seasons 1 through 16.
“I just felt like it was time,” the “Payphone” hitmaker told E! News of his comeback in January. “I had some time to reflect and do my thing and be with my family. I was ready to do it, then the stars aligned and here I am.”
He continued, “It’s funny, I actually didn’t miss it while I was gone. But I became more nostalgic about it once I came back.”
As for why Adam left The Voice after 16 seasons in 2019, he revealed on The Howard Stern Show at the time that he was ready to step away and spend time with wife Behati Prinsloo and their three kids.
“I was ready to not be doing it anymore, I think for a little bit,” he said. “I think that when it all kind of naturally happened, I was like, ‘OK, it feels right.’ For better or worse, the moment in which we decided to walk away felt really good. It was the right time for me to go.”
